Often called the Welsh Riviera thanks to its beautiful position and microclimate, this former fishing village on the Llyn Peninsula has transformed into a holiday hotspot where everyone, from families who have been visiting for decades to famous faces, can now be found enjoying a break to remember.  

There’s so much on offer in Abersoch, from beaches and boat trips to boutiques and bars – no matter who you’re holidaying with, or at what time of year, you’ll find plenty of things to do in Abersoch to keep everyone entertained!

Things to do in Abersoch

Hit the beach

No matter the time of year or who you’re bringing with you to Abersoch, you have to go to the beach! The village has four beaches so whichever of our Abersoch holiday homes you’re staying in, you won’t be far from the sand. From the long golden sands of Traeth Abersoch (Abersoch Main Beach) to the quieter Quarry Beach, perfect for a summer BBQ, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Relax at The Warren Spa  

Holidays should be all about relaxing and The Warren Spa in Abersoch is the perfect place to take some time for yourself and chill out. Set on the highly popular The Warren holiday park, there is a huge range of treatments available for everyone. You can opt for a beauty treatment, a massage, or even a full spa day of treatments. There are even children’s treatments available for those aged 5-15. A perfect way to spend a day when you’re looking for things to do in Abersoch in the rain!  


Take a boat trip

With the chance to see dolphins, seals, and a whole host of other wildlife, it’s no surprise one of the most popular things to do in Abersoch is take to the water. Abersoch Land and Sea run incredible trips from the village along Abersoch Bay, and out to St Tudwal's Islands and Porth Ceiriad. A highly recommended adventure for the whole family (children must be six or over to go on the boat).  


Play a round of golf  

One of the most popular things to do in Abersoch is to play a round at Abersoch Golf Club. Described as “the friendliest golf club in Wales” and “a jewel on the Welsh Riviera” it’s a must-visit for golf fans holidaying on the Llyn Peninsula. Offering a challenging mix of 18 holes on traditional links and parkland, the course is a must for golfers of all abilities.  


Places to eat and drink in Abersoch

Visitors to Abersoch are spoilt for choice when it comes to places to eat and drink in the village. There is a huge range of pubs, bars, and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.  

One of the most well-known restaurants in Abersoch is Zinc. Set right in the centre of the village, this Abersoch institution serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Expect delicious classics cooked to perfection served in the cosy restaurant or on the panoramic terrace overlooking the harbour.  

Seafood lovers must head to The Potted Lobster. A high-quality but relaxed dining experience where the freshest ingredients from the surrounding coastline are made into simple yet delicious meals.

Another Abersoch must-visit is Two Islands Café. Voted one of the world’s top 25 ice cream parlours, this gorgeous café serves the most incredible ice cream. It’s made on-site in small batches in a range of delicious ever-changing flavours, such as Brown Sugar Roasted Banana, that you’re unlikely to find elsewhere.  


The Great Outdoors

If you love adventuring in the great outdoors, you’ll love holidaying in Abersoch. There’s plenty of action to be had on land and on the water in the “Welsh Riviera”.  

Walk the Wales Coast Path

Always a popular choice for visitors to Wales, the coastal path stretches 870 miles right around the country, and hopping on the route anywhere around Abersoch and the Llyn Peninsula guarantees you spectacular sea views. There are plenty of options whether you want a short stroll around the Abersoch headland to a full day of hiking. Abersoch is famous for its dolphins so keep your eyes peeled as you walk the path!  


SUP and surf in Abersoch  

Abersoch is known for its waters and whether you’re a beginner or an expert one of the best things to do is take to the waters on a stand-up paddleboard or ride the waves on a surfboard. There are numerous providers in the village such as Abersoch Watersports and Offaxis who run surfing and sup lessons, as well as more adventurous activities such as tours and even paddleboard Pilates!

Abersoch has become well known for its sailing and now hosts national and international races throughout the year. And you too can be part of the action. Hydro Abersoch offers a whole range of sailing, powerboat, and jet ski courses, from taster lessons and beginner sessions to courses for more experienced sailors of all ages. Equipment can also be hired as part of the courses meaning anyone can try out these exciting activities in Abersoch  


Dog-friendly Abersoch

Abersoch is a great place on the Llyn Peninsula for a dog-friendly holiday. Two beaches in the village allow dogs all year round, the coastal path offers long walks for pups, and there are numerous shops and eateries in Abersoch that welcome dogs with open arms.

Fresh Bar and Grill is found in the heart of the village and serves up delicious home-cooked meals in a lovely atmosphere for both humans and dogs!  

The Little Tearooms at Mickey’s Boatyard Beach Café is another must-visit whilst on holiday in Abersoch with dogs. Not only does it have a gorgeous position right on the beach, and serve yummy treats for humans, but pups aren’t forgotten either, they get their own selection of treats and doggy ice cream!

Abersoch is a great place to do some retail therapy, and thankfully there are plenty of shops in the villages that are dog-friendly, from chain stores such as Mountain Warehouse and FatFace to boutiques such as First Light. So you can always break up that dog walk by snapping up some souvenirs.

Shopping in Abersoch

If a holiday isn’t a holiday to you without a little retail therapy then you will love a stay in Abersoch. Despite being a small village Abersoch is home to a wealth of shops, from chain stores to gorgeous little boutiques.  

If fashion is your thing, you will be spoilt for choice in Abersoch. Templeton Jones is a must-visit for country style as a stockist for brands such as Fairfax and Favor and Dubarry. Abersoch Boatyard offers a perfect blend of marine clothing and lifestyle styles. Breeze Abersoch and First Light offer a beautiful range of women's wear and designer labels. There is also a range of chain stores such as FatFace and White Stuff in the village.

Events and Festivals in Abersoch

Abersoch is a busy little village with plenty of events happening throughout the year for locals and visitors to enjoy or even partake in. Many of which take full advantage of the stunning location both on land and water.  

Abersoch Regatta

The biggest event on the Abersoch calendar is the Abersoch Regatta held annually in August. Established in 1881 it’s run by the Abersoch Village Community and there are a variety of events designed to keep the whole family and people of all ages entertained. From sandcastle-building competitions to golf days, and paddleboard and raft races, there’s plenty to see and do.  


SCYC events  

If you prefer to compete on water rather than on land or watch others doing so, the South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club in Abersoch hosts a variety of races throughout the year. Open to guests as well as members there are national and international competitions as well as the highly popular Dinghy Week.

Abersoch has made a name for itself as a sporting destination with numerous different races and challenges happening throughout the year.
