Steeped in maritime history, a visit to the museum is a must, as is a ride on one of the three narrow-gauge railways that pass through the town. A jaunt along the Wales Coast Path brings you to Criccieth (6 miles), known as the gateway to the Llyn Peninsula and famous for its dramatic castle ruins on the headland. Portmeirion Village (3 miles) makes a lovely day out, wandering amongst the Italianate architecture and ornamental gardens.
