This charming late Victorian house at Bontddu, in an elevated position with lovely views over the Mawddach Estuary to Cader Idris, is ideal for a family or group of friends looking for a restful base for an active holiday in Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula. Bontddu sits at the southern end of the Rhinogs, a range of hills stretching north towards Porthmadog. The lovely market town of Dolgellau (5 miles) also offers excellent local walking or cycling along the Mawddach Trail.

Formerly a minister’s house, this lovely three-storey property has a country style and a cosy and welcoming feel. The attractive sitting room is a lovely social space with plenty of comfortable seating, a TV for entertainment, and a wood burner to keep things snug all year. The kitchen diner includes everything you need to whip up delicious meals for family or friends. There is also a shower room on the ground floor. Upstairs you’ll find three bedrooms - one double, one single and one twin, and a contemporary bathroom. On the second floor is a double bedroom with sloping, beamed ceilings. There is a small outside terrace area with seating for two to enjoy a morning brew.

The property is ideal for exploring the mountains and the spectacular coastline. Walkers and mountain bikers will love the traffic-free walking and cycling trails at nearby Coed-y-Brenin. Head to National Trust South Snowdonia (6.5 miles) to enjoy mountains walks, walks along wooded valleys, and walks by beautiful estuaries. Spend a day with your buckets, spades, and water sports gear at the traditional seaside resort of Barmouth (6 miles) with its beautiful sandy and shingle beach. Continue north along the stunning coastline and stop at some picturesque villages to finally arrive at Harlech (16 miles), where you can enjoy the beach and discover the historic castle.

We have stayed in a lot of cottages/airbnbs/vrbos and we loved this property. The lounge is cosy and has a wood burning stove which is lovely for the cold evenings (You can buy bags of logs from the petrol station on the main road outside Dolgellau for for 4.25) The kitchen is fully equipped and the bedrooms have very comfortable matresses. The prRead moreoperty is located half way between Dolgellau and Barmouth but it doesn't feel out of the way. The view from the front of the property is absolutely stunning and the inside has some great artwork. We were a party of 4 adults and 3 year old and would definitely rent this property again. Hide

The house is beautiful with lovely decor and in a fantastic location. Some maintenance is required within and provision of better seating outside front would be beneficial to be able to look at the beautiful views.

A striking property in an elevated position overlooking the estuary and next door to the dramatic ruins of Bontddu Hall. The property is incredibly well equipped although this can make it seem a little cluttered. The crockery in particular is of high quality and supplied in copious amounts. The property is warm and clean whilst the main areas (diniRead moreng room, lounge, bedrooms) are comfortable. Parking is strictly limited to one car. The location is excellent being a short, scenic yet easy drive to local attractions and towns. Hide
